Essential Summer Hair Care Tips

Summer hair care tips

Your regular 2 or 3-step hair care system may not be a year-round deal. Just like you change your wardrobe in accordance with the seasons, you should also be rotating your hair care products to protect your hair from the sun.

During the summer, hair tends to turn dull and dry.

If you love to spend time on the beach, you should follow these essential summer hair care tips to protect your hair.

Sun makes your hair dry and it can look pretty much damaged if you do not take good care of it. Just like you swapped your warm clothes for summer clothes, you should do the same with your shampoo. Replace your regular shampoo with a sulfate free shampoo that is nutrient rich and will help restore your hair’s strength, shine, and softness. I have replaced my shampoo with the JOICO Blonde Life, that gives me all of the above mentioned. If your hair is blonde, you should try this brightening shampoo as it also illuminates your hair. It’s not like other shampoos for blondes that turn your hair yellow, this one is just the opposite, plus it keeps your hair nourished. I am beyond satisfied with JOICO shampoo.

Seawater or pool chemicals damage your hair. Make sure to use a hair conditioner after every wash. Look for a conditioner that is sulfate free and ultra nourishing to reach the illuminating hydration and softness. I use JOICO Brightening Conditioner that is nutrient rich and won’t make hair greasy looking. I apply it on damp hair and leave it on for 2 minutes. It is definitely worth purchasing it as it hydrates your hair and leaves it soft. If you have not used a conditioner after shampooing, you should at least invest in a leave-in conditioner that you can take anywhere you go and will also protect your hair from the sun. I am using WELLA Leave in Conditioner, and it’s absolutely brilliant, can’t leave without it now.

It happens so easily that our scalp gets sunburnt. Believe me, it’s better to protect it before this happens! After applying sunscreen to your body, quickly apply some to your scalp. In shops, you can also find scalp sunscreens.

Direct sun rays will eventually damage your hair if you do not protect it well. If you love sunbathing, you should try protecting your hair with a hat or a scarf/towel to avoid direct sun rays.

Once per week, use a hair masque that will neutralize chlorine and remove trace minerals that can dull your hair. I am using JOICO Blonde Life Brightening Masque that gives my hair exactly what they need during summer months; intense hydration, detox and illuminate.

  1. I love Joico products! Summer always makes my hair go crazy, so dry and brittle, but joico always sorts me out!

  2. I love the sound of the Joico brightening conditioner, I absolutely love Joico products. xx

  3. I have to use a hair mask in the summer, otherwise it goes brittle and frizzy! There are some really great ones for super cheap in supermarkets.

  4. My hairdresser has just recently reccomended this leave in conditioner. Its something I knew nothing about until she mentioned it. I am getting some to take on holiday with us to use. The chlorine always damages my hair from swimming so much on holiday.

  5. My hair really needs some TLC, it is looking very tired at the ends. I do like hiding under a hat though

Great tips. Gosh, I would never have thought of applying sunscreen to my scalp (bit greasy?) but I have been sunburn on my head before and it’s not nice!

  13. Never used Joico products, I once thought shampooing the hair often is quite harsh to the hair until I was advised by a dermatologist that it is just like using soap for the skin every day, as far as we choose to use the best product 🙂

  14. I didn’t realise you could get scalp sunscreen, I always feel my head burns
